SETIAKAWAN NATIONAL TOURS - SENAT 1/09

Saudara Setiakawan Sekelian,

Saya berterima kasih diatas kepercayaan yang diberi kepada saya untuk menjadi Pengerusi SENAT, iaitu singkatan kepada Setiakawan National Tours.National tours memberi pengertian ‘bermain golf diluar Klang Valley’ dalam satu kumpulan Setiakawan.Untuk ini permainan golf kita diluar sana perlu diurus dengan sempurna termasuk pentadbiran pentadbiran sampingan
seperti penginapan,sarapan dan pengangkutan. Maka itu diperlukan sebuah organisasi untuk menguruskannya.Bagusnya SETIAKAWAN telah pun mempunyai strukturnya tersendiri yang boleh membantu SENAT. InsyaAllah dengan kerjasama semua, SENAT akan dapat dilaksanakan dengan sebaik mungkin. Bagi SENAT lebih menarik,sebuah piala pusingan telah dihadiahkan oleh dua ahli SETIAKAWAN iaitu Mej Dato Ismail Hanifa (B) dan Lt Kol Dul Ngajis (B). Terimakasih kapada saudara berdua.Dengan ini timbul pula soalan bagaimana piala ini hendak dipertandingkan?Asasnya ialah pertandingan untuk merebut piala ini terbuka kepada semua ahli SETIAKAWAN yang telah bermain sekurang kurangnya 10 kali dalam tahun ini. Pertandingan ini akan dijalankan selama 2 hari dan jumlah skor terbaik akan menentukan pemenangnya. Pemenang akan menyimpan piala ini sehingga SENAT kedua diadakan.
Walau pun ada kriteria untuk menyertai SENAT, ini tidak bermakna ahli lain tak boleh mengikuti rombongan kita dan bermain sekali. Mereka boleh menyertai dalam Ball Sweep yang akan diadakan pada tiap tiap hari. Bagitu juga sekiranya ada kawan kawan lain yang terutamanya dikawasan setempat boleh juga turut serta dalam aktibiti golf kita.Dijangka SENAT dapat diadakan dua kali setahun.

GOLF OUTINGS DIBUKIT KEMUNING GOLF & COUNTRY RESORT PADA 07/10/09

Tiba masanya kita berhijrah ke Bukit Kemuning G&C Resort. Good layout and good rate. So, please be there on 07/10/09. Tee off by 0830 hrs. Rgds, RHM.

Bagitulah bunyinya SMS Saudara Raden Hamzah Massod (RHM) pada 04/10/09. Saya rasa inilah pertama kali kita dirancang bermain dikelab ini. Berhijrah. Memang betullah. Kita akan berhijrah luar daripada golf course yang kita biasa. Kalau melihat website nya berbunyi,

The clubhouse and golf course have seen a major facelift since early 2006 and the response has been very encouraging. With a solid goal in mind, Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort aims to be one of the best golf courses in the country and to attract serious golfing enthusiasts and golf tourists from all around the world.’
Sounds interesting especially the caption ‘The image of golfers greeting one another out at the fairways and golfer's terrace is a very common sight, and BKGCR feels extremely proud and ecstatic to host these smiles.’ Hopefully after completing 18 holes, there would still be enough smiles left on the golfers’ faces.
Saya jangka banyaklah response dan pada 06/10/09 saya menerima SMS berikut:

Saya rasa 7 flights X 4 ialah 28 golfers. Itu ada bagus. Bukan itu sahaja, pada subuh 07/10/09 pula saya terima satu lagi SMS berbunyi,
‘Wahai Setiakawan Members, 2day breakfast will be sponsored by YBhg Dato Nawi Alias. Semoga Ybhg DNA dilanjutkan umur dan dimurahkan rezeki. Rgds, RHM.’
My thanks to DNA too. At least dalam memandu ke Bukit Kemuning G&CR, dalam terkial kial mencari jalan serta menjengok sign board tak lah kita perlu memikirkan soal syoru pagi hari. Itu sudah catered for. Gesture macam ni memang lah saya hargai. Mungkin ada lagi ‘Good Samaritan’ yang ingin didoakan ‘Semoga dilanjutkan umur dan dimurahkan rezeki’. Dato Johar tak payah, sebab tiap tiap kali kita dapati air mineral dalam buggie, kita tahu Dato Johar ada bermain pada hari tu. Dan kita akan mendoakan kesempurnaan dan keselesaan beliau. Mungkin juga ada member yang buka kedai nasi lemak ke, ada ladang pisang ke. Tapi kalau ada ladang durian, itu kena lah jemput kita kesana. Convenor boleh mengatur untuk kita berhijrah ke golf course berdekatan dengan dusun durian dia.
Selepas bersarapan, ‘Thank you Dato NA’, kita pun beredar ke ‘Caddie Shack’, ambil caddie, siapa yang memerlukan dan bergerak ke tee box. Kita pun memulakan pertandingan. Flight saya terdiri dari Dato K (who else), Yours Truly (Ramli Kinta), saya dan Mej Rustam. Saya kenal Mej ni, tapi tak pernah satu flight dengan dia. Handicap 15, maknanya kukuh lah tu. Dato K memaklumkan semasa dia Panglima Medan dulu, dia ada bawak Mej Rustam ni sebagai ayam tambatan. Mengikutnya dia telah memaklum Panglima 2 Div pada masa itu bahawa dia ada ‘secret partner’ untuk bertarung. Mej Rustam lah orangnya. Ayam tambatan tak menjadi pada hari tu dan Dato K and partner tewas. Itu masa dolu dolu. Sekarang mereka partner lagi. Saya dengan Yours Truly. Kalau mengikut kelaziman selalu juga terdengar laungan ‘Yours Truly’ tu bermakna partner I tu selalu memenangi ball sweep. Kukuh lah tu. Bersemangat juga rasa dihati.
Golf Course Bukit Kemuning nampaknya baru diubahsuai dan very wide. Pasti boleh main baik. Hari cerah dan kering. Maknanya bola boleh pergi jauh. Terbaca saya SMS kiriman kawan, Mej Chukari pada 06/10/09 yang berbunyi ‚ ‚Salam Semua, Taufan Melur dengan kelajuan 222km/jam akan melanda Filipina malam ini. Angin kencang dijangka melanda Malaysia, kesan sampingan bhg pantai timur. Sila panjangkan kepada Sahabat Andai.’ Bila pulak Chukari masuk jabatan kaji cuaca ni. Anyway, that was good of him. Selepas bermain 6 lubang terasa cuaca berubah, hujan renyai renyai mulai turun. Dalam hati, Taufan Melur dah sampai ke?. Hujan lebat mulai turun tetapi tiada bunyi siren pun. Mungkin pasal tiada petir. Kita teruskan permainan. Basah lencun badan. Pukulan menjadi kurang kukuh. Sampai kelubang 14 hujan dah mula reda sehingga lah ke lubang 18. Baju pun dah kering dah. Kita selesai dalam jam 1230. Quite fast.Mungkin oleh sebab Banjaran Titiwangsa kita, dapat menghalang cuaca buruk yang dijangka melanda bahgian pantai barat.
The damage, saya kalah lagi kat Dato K as well on the partnership. Memang betul lah Mej Rustam ni pemain golf yang baik. Dia dapat net 71. Second placing for the A Medal. Well done.
Kita berkumpul diCoffee House Clubhouse untuk makan tengah hari. Lauk, curry ayam, sayur campur dan telur dada. Simple yet fulfilling. Selesai makan sessi pengumuman. Mula mula Dato Amin menerangkan tentang Ranking untuk pertandingan Golfer of the Year ala FedExCup calculations. Ada reset points, juga macam FedExCup. Beliau juga menerangkan tentang system handicapping kita yang mengikuti system USGA. Bermakna handicap yang diberi kepada tiap tiap ahli adalah handicap yang terkini berasaskan penilaian satu bulan dan bukan ‘potential handicap’. Saya pun tercengang sekejap hendak memahami mechanism handicapping kita. Dalam hal ini saya kena minta bantuan Dato Amin untuk memberi penjelasan selanjutnya. Penerangan lebih lanjut akan saya terangkan dalam blog ini melalui postings berlainan.
Selepas itu, Dato Hashim Yahaya (MJHim) pula memberi penerangan berkaitan Setiakawan National Tours atau SENAT. Jangan pula cuba mengubah acronym ini dengan menambah huruf T ke P ke atau SU ke. MJHim memaklumkan bahawa SENAT pertama bermula pada 18/10/09 sehingga 21/10/09. Ahad 18/10/09 bergerak ke Sg Patani. Penginapan di Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Resort (CSG&CR). Isnin 19/10/09, practice round di (CSG&CR). Selasa 20/10/09 bertanding di Penang Golf Resort, diBertam, Pulau Pinang, dan Rabu 21/10/09 bertanding diPermaipura Golf Resort. Pertandingan sebenar selama 2 hari iaitu pada 20 dan 21. Selepas permainan 21/10, members boleh merancang untuk pulang. Rancangan penuh akan dikeluarkan diBlog ini tak berapa lama lagi.
Selepas itu, Yours Truly (RK) mengambil alih. Sabelum mengumumkan pemenang pemenang pemenang beliau memaklumkan akan jemputan Dato Johar kepada semua members Setiakawan dan isteri untuk menhadiri majlis persandingan anaknya yang akan diadakan diDewan Perdana FELDA pada malam 23/10/09. Jemputan berasingan melalui posting diblog ini akan diadakan tak berapa lama lagi. RK seterusnya mengumumkan pemenang pemenang. Yang jelas saya nampak Razak dan DNA dah 2 minggu berturut turut menerima ball sweep. Juga kedengaran nama yang dah lama tak diumum, Kol Razaki. Nampaknya selepas handicap bergerak ke 21 dah mula terima ball sweep. -7 . Wow. Tak lama lagi nampaknya balik kehandicap asal lah. Ternampak juga Mike Weir kita juga menerima habuan nya. THE PRESIDENTS CUP

Kalau baru baru ni kita telah hiburkan dengan pertandingan golf the FedExCup bersekali dengan the Tour Championship diEast Lake, Atlanta Geogia, kali ini kita akan dihiburkan pula dengan satu lagi pertandingan yang tidak kurang hebatnya, the President’s Cup. Piala ini adalah pertandingan diantara Tim USA dan Tim International. Ryder Cup ialah pertandingan antara Tim Usa dan Tim Europe. Jadi, President’s Cup ini akan mempertarungkan Tim USA dengan Tim the Rest of the World mula 8/10 hingga 11/10/09 diHarding Park Course diSan Francisco, Amerika Syarikat.
Tim USA diketuai pleh Fred Couples, yes the man who wears no gloves dan Tim International diketuai oleh Greg Norman, the Great White Shark. Kalau melihat captains kedua dua tim ini memang lah hebat dan pertarungan dijangka akan hebat juga.
Peserta Tim USA didahului oleh Tiger Woods, the world’s no one player, diikuti oleh Phil Michelson, baru baru ini memenangi The Tours Championship, Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson. Senarai lengkap boleh dilihat dibawah
Peserta Tim International pula didahului oleh Geoff Ogilvy, Camilio Villegas (spiderman), Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen dan Ernie Ells. Senarai lengkap boleh dilihat dibawah.
Sekali imbas, nampak macam Tim Usa mempunyai a clear adavantage, tambahan pula pertandingan yang lepas Tim USA yang menang. Terakhir Tim International memenangi ialah pada tahun 1998. Walau bagaimana pun kita tak boleh beranggapan sedemikian kerana dalam golf bukan golfer bertentangan dengan golfer, tetapi golfer bertentangan dengan ‘ golf course’ yang dipilih. Kita lihat bagaimana Tim International berhadapan satu tim yang bagitu kukuh.

The Presidents Cup is a series of men's golf matches between a team representing the United States and an International Team representing the rest of the world less Europe. Europe competes against the U.S. in a similar but considerably older event, the Ryder Cup. The Presidents Cup is held biennially. Initially it was held in even numbered years, with the Ryder Cup being held in odd numbered years. However, the cancellation of the 2001 Ryder Cup due to the September 11 attacks pushed both tournaments back a year, and the Presidents Cup is now held in odd numbered years. It is hosted alternately in the U.S. and in countries represented by the International Team.

Format and strategy
Understanding the terminology
• Match play: Competition where the winner of holes is the determining factor as opposed to total strokes in medal play
• Four-ball: A match where two players play their own balls against the other twosome's two balls, with the better-ball score of each side winning the hole
• Foursomes: A match where two play against two, and each side plays one ball, with partners alternating shots from the tee until completion of the hole
• Singles: One-on-one competition using a match-play format.
The scoring system of the event is match play. The format is drawn from the Ryder Cup, consisting of twelve players per side and a non-playing captain, usually a highly respected golf figure. The captains are responsible for pairing the teams in the doubles events, which consist of both alternate shot and best ball formats (also known as "foursome" and "four ball" matches respectively) However, unlike the Ryder Cup, all twelve players must play foursome and four ball matches on Thursday and Friday (six matches per session, unlike the Ryder Cup with four matches), and only two players will sit out each session of Saturday matches (five matches per Saturday session, compared to four), and each player must play a one-on-one, singles match on Sunday.
Each match, whether it be a doubles or singles match, is worth one point. In the doubles matches a half-point is awarded to each team in the event of a tie. With 11 foursome doubles matches, 11 four ball doubles matches and 12 singles matches that represents a total of 34 points. To win the Presidents Cup a team must accrue a total of 17.5 points.
The format of the Presidents Cup differs from the Ryder Cup mainly in that it includes six extra matches, which prevents a team from hiding its weaknesses. By having all 24 players on the course for all three days there cannot be a situation such as in the 1999 Ryder Cup when Europe kept three players (Jarmo Sandelin, Jean Van de Velde and Andrew Coltart) on the bench for the sixteen four-ball and better-ball matches on the first two days. This use of twelve players on all three days arguably led to the United States' victory.
Ties
Until the 2005 event, prior to the start of the final day matches, the captains selected one player to play in a tie-breaker in the event of a tie at the end of the final match. Upon a tie, the captains would reveal the players who would play a sudden-death match to determine the winner. In 2003, however, the tiebreaker match ended after three holes because of darkness, and it was decided that the Cup would be shared by both teams.[1]
To prevent a repeat of this situation a new format was adopted. Beginning in 2005, all doubles matches played Thursday through Saturday may end in a tie. However, on Sunday, all singles matches ending in a tie at the end of the regulation 18 holes will be extended to extra holes until that match is won outright. All singles matches will continue in this format until one team reaches the required 17.5 point total and wins The Presidents Cup. At that point, all remaining singles matches will only be played to the regulation 18 holes and may end in a tie. This is done to preserve the individual player points for the event.[2]
History
The event was created and is organized by the PGA Tour. At the inaugural Presidents Cup in 1994, former U.S. President Gerald Ford was Honorary Chairman. Subsequent events saw former President George H. W. Bush, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, then-President Bill Clinton, the former President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki, George W. Bush and the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper in the chair.[3]
Charity
There is no prize money awarded at the Presidents Cup. The net proceeds are distributed to charities nominated by the players, captains, and captains' assistants. The first six Presidents Cups raised over US$13 million for charities around the world.[4]

BUKIT KEMUNING GOLF & COUNTRY RESORT

Now that the Convenor has decided on Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort as the next venue on Wednesday, 07/10.09 for our game, I would like to enlighten members on the club as well as direction to it.Its website could be reached at http://www.bkgr.com/home1.html. As a guide, the best route to reach it would be through KESAS heading towards Klang. The map is attached beneath. The brochure states:

WEEKLY GOLF OUTING ON 30/09/09 AT THE BANGI GOLF RESORT

We had our weekly golf competition for the second time after the Hari Raya holidays on 30/09/09 at the Bangi Golf Resort. There were 6 flights in all. Participants included those we have not seen for ages. All looked keen to resume where we left off about 11/2 m onths ago. At the Coffee House, after the normal exchanges of pleasantry everybody had a peek into the flight details. As there were no clashes prior to this the usual revengeful look was absent, instead, only an anticipatory expectation of new rivalry to be established. Dato Nawi had his wish granted with him partnering Tan Sri Hashim Meon playing against Dato Amin and Aziz Norman. I had the President, Dato Khairuddin and Dul Ngajis as flight partners. In our case, as Dul Ngajis was a handicap 1, we insisted that it be 3 against one and with strokes at all the holes. Dul Ngajis as always accepted with a smiling face. This was the first time our ability based on the recently revised handicaps were pitted against each other. The outcome was yet to be felt after the game. Besides our match against Dul Ngajis, the 3 of us also had on a cutthroat at scratch. Whilst our game against Dul ended with him RM 100 poorer, on our part I had to pay the President and also to Dato K. He had a net 83 and I had a net 77, yet I still pay. Well that’s how a hole by hole game goes. Better luck next time.
We then had lunch with rice, curry ikan tenggiri, sayur bayam and lauk telor. To me kalau telur was prepared as lauk means tak de modal lagi lah tu. Surprisingly curry chicken came later.
Prize giving followed after lunch. Ramli Kinta announced the winners as follows:

Kalau nengok score pada ‘hari pertama’ selepas lama berehat dan juga dengan handicap yang baru, nampaknya semuanya cautious. Terbaik -4 diikuti dengan -3. Yang lain semua -1 atau E dan juga +1. Nampak nampak macam tak ndak menunjuk sangat. Biar lah berpadanan. Saya agak kalau the prize money is good the results would be overwhelmingly better. Kita tengok next outing pula.
Dato Nawi as the Vice President (newly designated) made some announcements pertaining to the SetiakawanGolf Committee. It has been revamped and notable adjustments are:
a. Tan Sri Hashim Meon is now our Patron.
b. Dato Nawi Alias is our Vice President cum Golf Captain

The organizational chart would be put up as soon as I am able to confirm the complete committee.
